Some of our poems are transformed under the spotlight of "The Life Writing Show" as well.
In observance of "National Poetry Month", the Poet Extraordinaire, Nathaniel Terrell share one of his latest works. Overall, writing poetry allows Nate to release the most intimate of thoughts. “It’s lyrical therapy”, he once told me. #nationalpoetrymonth #poetry
Each day can bring new joy,
Like a kid opening a new toy,
Each day can bring sorrow,
Which makes us not look towards tomorrow,
We have to be strong and sure,
That God has the cure,
So don't look at the past and be sad,
Reflect and be glad,
Glad of each and every day provided,
Glad that God has guided,
Things may not be as you wante

We have to be strong and sure,
That God has the cure,
So don't look at the past and be sad,
Reflect and be glad,
Glad of each and every day provided,
Glad that God has guided,
Things may not be as you wanted,
And God may seem like an opponent,
Be assured he is not my friend,
He is refreshing as the tropical wind,
Take with you these words of wisdom,
God is leading you to his kingdom.

It had me out of my body,

The waiting room of faith
is inside the gauntlet of life.
Where the only thing that’s promised is death.
Fools fall for love,
saints go from glory to glory,
most live from breath to breath.
I don’t need a mansion.
Give me a beautiful angel
and a secluded cabin in the sky.
Life means everything,
not when you win or lose,
but when you realize you are going to die.
I am not unaccustomed to evil.
I fall to temptation.
Sometimes I am in tune with my spirit,
other times I move in my flesh.
I try hard to do right,
many times I get it wrong.
I come back harder after every failed test.
I pray for protection.
I pray for peace.
I pray for victory,
when it is time for war.
I have set my boundaries.
I will relent when my nets are full.
Humility and hard work,
drive my hunger for more.

The last twelve years or so has unveiled many masks that hid the depths of generational hatred.
Now, faces are surfacing in the midst of this pandemic that are colorfully ugly...worn by grown folks seemingly looking back to their infancy.
God, please cleanse our lenses so we may see ourselves more clearly...in order to treat the next person as we so desire to be treated.
By chance if any person does not believe in You, I pray they believe in something bigger than themselves, so their minds be tugged by conviction...and their hearts, by love.
(Inspired by a plethora of recent Facebook posts calling women, "bitches", and other insensitive names)

Being fundamentally sound can dictate an outcome of a fight.

Being fundamentally sound can dictate an outcome of a fight.
Scriptures caution us to work while the sun shines.
However, I am behind so I must also labor at night.
In my opinion wisdom is better obtained while often taken for granted when freely given,
All I ever wanted was to be loved fiercely without restraints, ulterior motives, or conditions.
I face midlife with a fragmented heart,
But that’s okay because my heart is not broken.
My soul is safe, my spirit is free, my body is fit, and my mind is open.
My cross is no smoking, drinking, getting high tripping and in this season, I remain celibate.
Each new day I give thanks and praise,
Do the best I can with what I’ve got each new day I also repent.
I practice to be better,
I’ll never be perfect; my goal is continuous progression.
I mind my business and stay out the way,
I can’t spare energy to be stressing.
Drama is created,
Drama is also fed and spread,
So, most days until dusk, I fast.
And the very next time you and I share our first kiss.
I pray to God, as for first kisses, it will be our last.
Circumstance has proven that I only need a little.
And even though we’ve never met I long for her,
A virtuous woman that compliments my role to protect, provide and lead,
And understands the importance of putting God first.
Some cherished bonds bring healing once they are broken,
Some eloquent words are better left unsaid,
I need a word from God; I ignore the voice of Satan.
I struggle to make sense of all the noise in my head.
Fear can drive a man to do many things unbridled,
Anger can cause him to ruin his life.
Years of disrespect will make even the kindest hearts explode,
A lost soul walks in darkness while basking in daylight.
I am thankful for all the wisdom I’ve gained.
I appreciate and cherish the wisdom that was freely given,
I can’t wait for the day that I am loved fiercely by the woman I am supposed to love without restraints, ulterior motives, or conditions.

Cold and bitter, for the December winter,
As the snow fell in the night, all my mom saw were lights,
One car, six kids, upside down in a ditch,
She knew it was him,
My uncle, James Bradley, he left us sadly,
Sixteen years of age, I know I’ll see him again someday.
