The features are further publicized on "The Life Writing Blog". Some are discussed with Guests of "The Life Writing Show".
The beginning of the year is an ideal time to start a new hobby or circle back to an old one you may have drifted away from. Hobbies are beneficial for several reasons. They tend to offer an escape…that invaluable time to decompress from the ills and stressors life may present. Hobbies don’t have to be over-the-top tasks or events. Many people simply gravitate to an activity that brings them joy…akin to things they are most passionate about. Some popular hobbies are writing creatively, gardening, cooking, fishing, or even taking exercise classes...they all help to elevate your overall wellness.
The health benefits are unmatched, especially when you engage in them regularly. For instance, hobbies tend to relieve stress and anxiety, stimulate your mind, or even allow you to express yourself…depending on the activity. Lastly, hobbies can be monetized. There’s nothing quite like transforming one into a business venture that you thoroughly enjoy while getting compensated for it. What are you waiting for, start a new one or get back to a former one; so much more life is awaiting you!
Today is life - the only life you are sure of. Make the most of today. Get interested in something. Shake yourself awake. Develop a hobby. Let the winds of enthusiasm sweep through you. Live today with gusto." -Dale Carnegie

According to the World Health Organization, World Mental Health Day 2023 is an opportunity for people and communities to unite behind the theme ‘Mental health is a universal human right” to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health as a universal human right.
Mental health is a basic human right for all people. Everyone, whoever and wherever they are, has a right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. This includes the right to be protected from mental health risks, the right to available, accessible, acceptable, and good quality care, and the right to liberty, independence and inclusion in the community.

January recognizes many meaningful causes. Mentoring is one that is observed annually and is steadily gaining more traction across the country. For the most part, “National Mentoring Month” focuses on how we can increase the number of mentors throughout our communities to ensure enough trusted advisors are available for young boys, girls, and young adults to look up to as needed. Many of us can personally attest to the positive impact(s) mentoring, when conducted early and often, can have on young lives.
Mentoring is helpful in countless ways. Oftentimes, it exposes mentees to new experiences that promote healthy growth such as improved communication and active listening skills. It has also proven to boost one’s confidence and self-esteem. There are numerous enhancements around life/soft skills and various hands-on abilities, attributed to good mentoring. Ironically, mentees are not the only ones getting something significant from the exchanges. Studies have shown mentors tend to benefit as certain things are reenforced while helping others…a win-win for everyone involved!
Many public and private organizations are fully aware of the lasting benefits of mentoring and now offer formalized mentoring programs to help young members, employees, etc., obtain and further develop certain skills. This phenomenon works wonders from an organization development standpoint. The workforce’s chances of being healthy and vibrant increases dramatically when any facet of mentoring is implemented.
For those of you out there mentoring, be it in a formal setting or just helping your brethren along the way, keep putting in the work. Sometimes, you never know how impactful your efforts are, even if they seem somewhat menial to you. Mentoring works both ways…make yourself available to help someone in need or seek the help you may need to make YOU a better YOU…the rest will take care of itself!

Penelope Abrams often refers to herself as a “Carolina Peach Twist”. It is safe to assume this is a play on her birth state, South Carolina, and the one she has resided in for over two decades, Georgia. Her time in the metro Atlanta area has presented her with a plethora of opportunities. Perhaps, one of the most recent ones is related to its vibrant real estate scene. She has always had a passion for interior design, new home tours, and browsing beautiful communities. Atlanta’s market gradually sparked her interest which ultimately led to becoming a Real Estate Agent. Penelope states, “The fulfillment of making people happy by assisting them with one of the largest investments they will ever make deepen my passion even more. Each time I am blessed with the opportunity to assist my clients with purchasing or selling a home is memorable for me.” She enjoys the look in their eyes, and the smiles on their faces at the conclusion of the closing…it is unforgettable, pleasurable, and priceless!
Penelope prides herself in ensuring her customers are as informed as possible. In fact, she has some wholesome tips when it comes to how prospective homebuyers can posture themselves. “It makes good business sense to first save as much as you can”, says Penelope. Money on hand is key not only for associated costs prior to closing, but having it for various expenses after moving in. She goes on to stress how this helps to create a disciplined mindset when it comes to your overall spending tendencies. Of course, advanced awareness of your credit report portfolio is paramount! Besides, assets versus liabilities are critical determining factors as they influence the loan approval process of home buying.
She shares the following ways to boost the value of your home. A number of people opt to upgrade their kitchens, update their bathrooms and recreational space(s), as well as expand their outdoor living areas. Those considering to sale their home, should first consider decluttering as needed. There’s nothing quite like walking through a resale and feeling confined…can make the home feel small, too. This, along with making minor cosmetic repairs will seemingly make the home more move-in ready. It's also amazing how a fresh coat of neutral-colored paint can make a world of difference to a room! Overall, many buyers tend to be drawn to resale homes that do not require major projects upon moving in.
Lastly, finding an agent who is personable and exudes the utmost level of professionalism is key, according to Penelope. “Most of us can discern if the agent has our best interest in the home buying/selling process. The worst feeling in the world is being just another number to your agent”, Penelope proclaims. There are a slew of reputable agents out there to enter into your vetting portal. You can start by visiting @penelopetherealtor on Instagram, and reaching out by email at soldbyPenelope@gmail.com, or phone at (404) 844-7686. Happy buying or selling!
